Twinkies Have Prevailed!

CNN Money reported good news yesterday for the nostalgic folks whose childhood memories included Twinkies and other Hostess snacks… the infamous golden sponge cake could be back on shelves as early as this summer!

After Hostess Brands announced that they would be closing their doors for good in November, many wondered if they’d ever see some of the brand favorites again. Thanks to a $410 million bid for the business by Apollo Global Management and Metropoulos & Co., it looks like they will! Dean Metroloulos, founder of Metropoulos & Co, stated that “Our family is thrilled to have the opportunity to reestablish these iconic brands with new creative marketing ideas and renewed sales efforts and investments.” The bidders also bought five of the closed bakeries as part of the bid. The Twinkie will be back.

Flowers Foods won most of the Hostess bread business on February 28th with a $360 million bid that included Wonder, Nature’s Pride, Merita, Home Bride, and Butternut bread brands. Their bid also included 20 bakeries.

McKee Foods Corp. is currently the highest bidder for Hostess’ Drake’s brand with a $27.5 million bid but it is still pending. Drake’s products include Ring Dings, Yodels, Devil Dogs, Yankee Doodles, and coffee cake and the bid will include some of the company’s equipment.

The childhood favorites have prevailed! All is right in the world.
