2012 Fall Festival Fun

Boston.com’s 2012 Fall Festival Fun highlights the best events from a busy autumn full of festivals. Some of our favorites are:

The Big E 
Sept. 14-30
The Big E takes place in West Springfield for 17 days. This year the event boasts a line-up of entertainment, including Jeff Dunham, Rodney Atkins, Alan Jackson, and a circus. Attendees can also enjoy crafts, a winter wonderland, a replica of each New England capitol, food contests, animals and parades. Topsfield Fair 
Sept. 28-Oct. 8
A large fair with a history going back nearly two centuries (the Essex Agricultural Association, which runs the fair, formed in 1818), Topsfield will feature entertainment from Hot Chelle Rae, Bridget Mendler, The US Marine Corps Band, and more this year. Weekday tickets $11; weekend, holiday and Oct. 5 $15; $22 for 11 rides, $5.50 food vouchers, $10 parking. 207 Boston St., Topsfield, 978-887-5000, www.topsfieldfair.org
