A Visual History of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloons

Gawker.com’s A Visual History of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloons spans back to the 1930s for a glimpse of the balloon’s origins. The balloons of the 1930s were figurative interpretations of animals like an alligator or a turkey. By the ’60s the parade featured balloons of  pop cultural figures like Popeye. After 9/11 Macy’s reintroduced the classic NYC Fire Fighter balloon in 2001.
