September 11 Commemorative Classical Concerts in the Washington Area is highlighting a selection of local concerts memorializing the tenth anniversary of attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, with speeches by Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and President Barack Obama. Here are some of the selections:

The World Doctors Orchestra, amateur musicians who are also physicians, are putting on a 9/11 concert to benefit Whitman-Walker Health and “is also a remembrance of 9/11 and a plea for peaceful solutions to world problems.”

Washington National Cathedral’s three-day commemoration of the anniversary begins this Friday, September 9, with a performance at 7:30 PM of the German Requiem of Johannes Brahms by Cathedral musicians and guest artists, including soloists Christine Brandes and Eric Owens.

On September 24 at 4 PM, the Friday Morning Music Club’s Collegium Musicum will join with singers from Calvary Baptist Church to celebrate Festival of Hope. The concert combines excerpts from Mendelssohn’s Elijah with other selections, to honor the 125th anniversary of the FMMC, the 150th anniversary of the church, and the tenth anniversary of September 11.
