Topeka, Kansas is now Google, Kansas

Techcrunch.com is reporting that the mayor of Topeka signed a proclamation that for March 2010, Topeka, Kansas will be known as “Google, Kansas”. This is the mayor’s attempt to get Topeka into Google’s new “Fiber for Communities” program. This is not a legal name change, just a proclamation asking people to simply call the city “Google”.  The city of Topeka has tried this PR stunt before in 1998, signing a proclamation to change its name to “ToPikachu”, named after the cartoon Pokemon.
