Boston Looks Like it’s Melting

Bostonmagazine.com takes us on a little Apple-led tour of Boston and shows us the problems with Apple’s newest Maps applications.

“As you’ve probably heard, within days of last month’s iPhone 5 release, users began to notice problems with the new Apple Maps application, which replaces Google Maps on the phone’s new iOS 6 software: distorted images, wrong directions, and some towns missing completely. The problems are bad enough that Apple CEO Tim Cook issued an apology.”

Bostonmagazine.com has compiled some examples of  famous Boston-area mistakes. Our favorites are:

Google Maps for Android now offers 3D buildings in 16 new cities

BGR.com is reporting that Google Maps for Android now offers 3D buildings in London, Paris, 16 other cities.

“Google announced on Tuesday that it has added support for 3D buildings in 13 additional cities on Google Maps, including London, Paris, Barcelona, Stockholm, Singapore, Lisbon, Boulder, and 11 cities in South Africa. Until Tuesday, the feature was available in just a handful of other metropolitan areas, including New York, Milan, and Zurich. To activate 3D buildings in one of the aforementioned locations, simply zoom in close to the city and the application will then show a 3D renders of the city landscape. A software update is not required if you already have the latest version of Google Maps installed on a device running Android 2.0 or newer.”

Google currently has 3D maps of the following cities in the United States:

Boston, MA

Washington DC’s Department of Transportation’s latest project is the Snow Response Reporting System which is a map providing information to residents about the city’s response to severe winter weather. The map features color coded street conditions and has links to live traffic cam images. Residents can also search the map by street address, intersection, block or common place name.
