5th Ave Frogger

Gizmodo.com highlights an updated version of the arcade classic, Frogger, with real time traffic on New York’s Fifth Avenue.  The creator, Tyler DeAngelo uses realtime footage from a webcam looking down at the street is processed, and the position and motion of the actual cars driving down Fifth Avenue is translated to the in-game vehicles. The hacked version of the game also provides a split-screen view showing the player how the traffic in the game matches the traffic on Fifth Avenue in real life. This year is Frogger’s 30 (ish) birthday. To celebrate, DeAngelo wanted to imagine what Frogger would be like if it was developed today.

Holiday window shopping in NYC

New York’s Fifth Avenue is the shopping mecca of the world, famous for its collection of high end retail stores. During the holiday season, stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman and others attract shoppers into their stores with extravagant holiday window displays.

Some of the highlights can be seen in nymag.com’s “Tis the Season for Holiday Windows” slideshow.

Our favorites are:

Barneys New York’s Saturday Night Live’s 35th anniversary inspired windows with papier-mâché sculptures of Roseanne and Tina Fey as Sarah Palin among others. Andy Samberg, Tina Fey, Seth Meyers, and Lorne Michaels from SNL were on hand for the window unveiling.

Saks Fifth Avenue’s PC lounge inside the New York flagship store. The lounge will feature products running Microsoft’s new Windows 7 operating system and is highlighted by several window displays with interactive monitors powered by Microsoft. Shoppers can tweet messages with #holidaywindows tag which will appear in the display.

Churchill has temporary luxury rental apartments available in Midtown. Take a stroll down Fifth Avenue and do a little window shopping when you are in New York for the holidays.
