The world’s most terrifying towers and glass balconies

Webecoist.com has published an article listing the 13 most terrifying towers & glass balconies in the world. This list takes us on an international tour, from a bird watching tower in the Amazon jungles of Ecuador to the world’s tallest free standing structure in Burj Dubai.

On the list is Chicago’s Skydeck at the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower). The Skydeck is the highest observatory in Chicago and has glass balconies that are 1,353 feet from the ground. It provides an unobstructed view with it’s glass walls and floor; visitors can see 40 to 50 miles out on a clear day.

The Skydeck also has museum-quality exhibits of Chicago’s rich history, multilingual kiosks providing quick tours of Chicago landmarks, and high powered telescopes, allowing visitors to see Chicago in detail.

Making Strides for Breast Cancer

October is breast cancer awareness month and the American Cancer Society is hosting the Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk in Washington DC on Saturday, October 31st.

If you are staying in one of Churchill’s Washington DC apartments and would like to attend, the event is located at Washington Nationals Ballpark and registration starts at 9am. The 5k walk consists of 2 laps around the stadium and 1 lap inside the concourse. There are additional entertainment/events outside the stadium like Dragon boar Rides with GO PINK! DC and face painting on N St.

The goal for this event is $400,000 which will help purchase wigs for women going through chemotherapy,  mastectomy bras and fund researchers searching for a cure.

Birth of the Golden Gate Bridge

Life.com has a slide-show of The Golden Gate Bridge, the world famous icon of San Francisco skyline that was opened in 1937. The slide-show features a series of historical images from construction which started in 1933 and ends with a picture of the bridge taken on February 22, 1985 which commemorated the 1 billionth vehicle to pass over the bridge.

The bridge took 4 years to build and costs approximately 35 million dollars. It connects the city of San Francisco on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County. It is currently the second longest suspension bridge in the United States and the ninth longest suspension bridge in the world.

ABC News picks America’s 11 Spookiest Halloween Destinations featuring “freaky activities” that “will haunt you, even in your afterlife”.

NY Times spends 36 hours in Richmond, VA

Justin Bergman of the New York Times recently spent 36 hours in Richmond, Virgina sampling some of the highlights form the area. He starts his trip in Carytown, which is one long street that is dubbed “a mile of style”. The street is lined with over 300 stores and offices featuring an assortment of boutiques and more than 25 places to eat. Carytown’s eclectic mix sprung up  from the building boom over he past few years. He also took time to enjoy the Richmond nightlife at Bank, which is a bank that was converted into a bar and Camel for some live music. He concludes his trip with a champagne Sunday brunch in the Jefferson Hotel in the hotel’s rotunda lobby featuring live music by the Skip Gailes Trio.
