Tall Buildings from around the World

What is a tall building? How is a building’s height measured?  The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) is the world’s leading body in the field of tall buildings and the recognized source of information on tall buildings internationally. It is the arbiter of the criteria upon which tall building height is measured, and thus the title of “The World’s Tallest Building” determined.

While the tallest building (height to tip) currently is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Chicago’s Willis Tower and John Hancock Center and New York’s Empire State Building are the domestic buildings that make the top 10.

CTBUH also houses a wealth of information about tall buildings. There are annual reviews of tall buildings, as well as photo archives and technical papers for review.

Miami – Home of the Next World’s Tallest Building?

Decodedstuff.com is reporting “Plans have been floated for a new superscraper in Miami that could steal the world’s tallest crown from Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.” The building, rumored to be 975 meters or approximately 3,200 feet tall will be 183 meters or  600 feet taller than the Burj Khalifa, which currently holds the title. The project has been rumored for more than a decade but developer Guillermo Socarras has resurrected talks and is looking for investors.
