Google Maps for Android now offers 3D buildings in 16 new cities

BGR.com is reporting that Google Maps for Android now offers 3D buildings in London, Paris, 16 other cities.

“Google announced on Tuesday that it has added support for 3D buildings in 13 additional cities on Google Maps, including London, Paris, Barcelona, Stockholm, Singapore, Lisbon, Boulder, and 11 cities in South Africa. Until Tuesday, the feature was available in just a handful of other metropolitan areas, including New York, Milan, and Zurich. To activate 3D buildings in one of the aforementioned locations, simply zoom in close to the city and the application will then show a 3D renders of the city landscape. A software update is not required if you already have the latest version of Google Maps installed on a device running Android 2.0 or newer.”

Google currently has 3D maps of the following cities in the United States:

Boston, MA
New Orleans, LA
New York, NY
Chicago, IL
San Francisco, CA

New York

Celebrate Brooklyn!OK. Technically it’s not free. It’s $3 (although, if you don’t believe in karma or supporting the arts, you could just walk right in). Held in Prospect Park, several times a week they have world-renowned artists and also movies.

The New York Philharmonic is putting on a free concert to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11 on Saturday, September 10 at Avery Fisher Hall.

Free yoga and tai chi classes in Bryant Park every Tuesday and Thursday all throughout summer.

San Francisco

Film Night in the Park. Free movies in various parks around San Francisco through September.

Jewels in the Square has live music, dance, and movies. Wednesdays at 12:30 and 6, and Sundays at 2 in Union Square Park.

If you’re looking to learn some dance, Dancing Under the Stars is for you. Held every Friday until August 26 from 8:30 – 10pm at Jack London Square.

Miami

The 2nd annual FAME (Fashion, Art, Music, and Entertainment) event goes down August 5 from 7pm to 1am at Doral Park. Local talent is on showcase here, so go support them.

Toothpick Sculpture of San Francisco

Scott Weaver, a San Francisco based artist has created an abstract toothpick sculpture of San Francisco called “Rolling through the bay“. Weaver spent approximately 3,000 hours over the course of 3 years and 100,000 of toothpicks to create the sculpture. It also features four ping pong ball paths that roll through different landmarks of San Francisco.
