Nytimes.com reports “New York City plans to enact a far-reaching ban on the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts, in the most ambitious effort yet by the Bloomberg administration to combat rising obesity.” However, at 7-Eleven, the Big Gulps Elude a Ban by the City through a loophole in the proposal which only affects sales of large sugary drinks in delis, fast-food restaurants, movie theaters and the like, but exempts the sale of drinks in groceries or convenience stores. The Bloomberg administration had made previous efforts to make soda consumption less appealing; all past efforts were unsuccessful.
